Meet Robyn Roots

I am the CEO and Founder of Klosa Productions and Kidney Keeper. Making films is one of my passions, and I describe myself as a "Nurse by Day, Movie Producer by Night." I love to write, direct, and produce films and educational content for high-functioning organizations. As a Renal Strategist and Consultant, I have also ventured into developing and facilitating workshops and organizing health fairs to educate high-functioning organizations about hypertension, diabetes, and kidney diseases.

Get to Know Robyn

How and why did you start your business?

I started my business because I always felt an entrepreneurial spirit within me. When I was young, I remember babysitting kids, tutoring, doing homework, and writing essays for people to earn money. When I got into nursing, my specialty became renal dialysis, and it became my passion. I continued educating people outside of my job and loved answering questions about kidney health and health in general. I've been running Kidney Keeper since 2013, and I've done a lot of community work for free. Now, we're ready to venture into the business world.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I love walking and exploring my neighborhood, getting close to nature by walking on the grass, picking flowers, or holding sticks. These are things that I feel are closely connected to God, so I consider myself a nature person in the neighborhood. I walk for 2-3 miles when the weather is good.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about helping people embrace healthier lifestyles and take care of themselves within the healthcare system. It's important to me that people become the CEO of their health and understand what's available for them to stay healthy. I'm passionate about empowering people to feel like they have some control.

What's your favorite place to eat around Richmond?

One of my favorite places to eat in Richmond is The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing, which sits on the James River. The seafood is really good, and the view and atmosphere are amazing. I almost bought a condo there when I was single because I've always wanted to live near the water. It's one of my favorite places to eat and a great place to walk and clear my head.

What is Klosa Productions?

Klosa Productions is a production company that I started in 2017, to bridge the gap between education and film. We aspire to use film as a tool to educate, capture history and ignite change in our community. The name 'Klosa' was derived from the word 'closer' which was given to me by my girlfriends because I always closed the deal during our travels and adventures. I'm known to be the problem-solver in the group, always fixing what's broken and able to negotiate resolutions. Since started Klosa Productions I have produced multiple award-winning films including my award-winning documentary, 2020 Year of the Nurse.

Have you ever written and published any book?

Yes, I wrote a book, 2020 Year the Nurse: Our Love Affair with Nursing, during the worst pandemic in history. It was written after my award-winning documentary, 2020 Year of the Nurse to expand on their experience and ongoing love affair with nursing. Even though things have changed dramatically, nursing is not an easy job. It is the only job where you can witness life coming into the world and comfort as mankind leaves the world. The book also explores why we choose nursing and some of the challenges we face throughout our careers. It has received great reviews on Amazon and is my first published book. I am very excited about its success.

How can we collaborate?

If you have a book, a story, or a play that you want to convert into a film, we can definitely sit down and discuss your goals and budget. We can explore the possibility of bringing your work to the big screen or getting it into film festivals or any other arena that aligns with your vision. Some people simply want to express themselves and see their work on paper or on the big screen, and we can guide you through the process of achieving that. I am always happy to co-produce, co-direct, consult in various ways, be a public speaker or keynote speaker, and participate in expert panels.

How can you work with me?

You can schedule an appointment to have a strategic conversation with me. Additionally, you can connect with me on any of my social media platforms.
